Abstract

Dr. Julio C. Tello, ceased to exist on June 3 last. His disappearance represents a great national loss for Peru. Professor Tello carried out in the course of his life, entirely dedicated to study and scientific research, a work of extraordinary importance for the knowledge, inside and outside the country, of our historical past. Without a doubt, Dr. Tello was one of the best equipped mentalities for archaeological studies. His work deserved the praise and admiration of the most solvent scientific institutions in America and Europe. Its production is scattered in a multitude of monographs, articles in national and foreign magazines and newspapers, university theses and academic texts. Represented Peru in conferences and scientific competitions. He held positions of first importance in Academies, Institutes and Universities. He performed with singular brilliance in university teaching, to which he was closely linked, having authored a draft of the University Reform Statute.
