Phonological-graphical analysis of Bertonio's vocabulary

Keywords: Vocabulary, Aimara language

Abstract

The Aymara Vocabulary of the priest Ludovico Bertonio was published in 1612 and was the most extensive and useful dictionary of the language published at that time. Another aspect for which the Vocabulary stands out is the good orthographic representation of the Aymara words, not a very simple task due to the complexity of the phonetics of that native language (there are simple, aspirated and glotalized occlusive consonants).
