Abstract

Ciro Alegría deserves to be considered a Peruvian classic, and is worth being studied from the perspective of the way his work has been received by the critics. No doubt his three initial and essential novels can be qualified as canonical texts, a title specially given to El mundo es ancho y ajeno. In this article we propose to do an analysis of how the work was received by the academic critique and of the form in which it got consolidated as a cardinal work in our literature.
